President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will leave Abuja for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday to participate in the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, which is set to take place from November 18 to 19, 2024. Invited by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Tinubu will join other world leaders to talk about hunger eradication, poverty reduction, transitioning to cleaner energy, and improving governance. The summit’s main theme is “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.”
Nigeria plans to use the summit to push for changes in global governance, including its bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Tinubu will also have individual meetings to support Nigeria’s social and economic reforms.
He will be joined by important officials, such as the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Livestock Development, Agriculture, and Tourism, as well as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency. Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the summit ends.
