Mr Okey Kanu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, on Friday, October 20, had cautioned the Abia state residents against taking laws into their own hands by participating in mob justice.
Kanu had made this remark when the Abia Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, paid him a visit at the State Secretariat in Umuahia, the state capital.
The Commissioner had warned the people to investigate their concerns to relevant authorities instead of resorting to mob justice.
Kanu had remarked that mob justice was best tagged as a barbaric act which did not present the people of Abia in a good light and, therefore, should be abhorred by all means.
He had stated that the government and indigenes of Abia State must come together to curtail such barbaric acts.
Kanu had finally advised:
“For whatever it is worth, instead of mob action, look for the nearest police station to report any crime.”
