According to a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, 82% of the budget will be used for capital projects, with a focus on long-term infrastructure development to support sustainable growth in the state. Governor Otti explained that this shows his government’s dedication to upgrading the state’s infrastructure, ensuring that these improvements will help both present and future generations.
Governor Otti said, “When you have capital expenditure over 80%, it speaks to what you want to do with infrastructure, projects that will outlast all of us.” He added that prioritizing capital spending over day-to-day expenses highlights the government’s commitment to creating a strong foundation for Abia’s growth.
The remaining 18% of the budget is set aside for recurrent expenses, which include important operational needs like paying the national minimum wage and pensions. Despite the financial pressures these commitments bring, the Governor reiterated the administration’s resolve to manage resources prudently while meeting critical obligations.
In addition to the budgetary details, the statement also highlighted current infrastructure projects that are expected to be completed by 2025. These involve building and fixing roads like the Port Harcourt Road in Aba, the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road, the Ohafia-Arochukwu Road, and the Okobo-Abam Road. Other important projects include the Omenuko Bridge and the Nunya Road. Governor Otti also stated that Investment in sectors like healthcare and education would continue to be prioritized.
