Lorenzo Colombo and Marco Nasti did enough to see off a jittery AC Milan in a pulsating 3-2 win against reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City in a preseason friendly at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. Colombo netted the first two goals in the first half, with Nasti scoring the winner in the 78th minute.
Norwegian striker Erling Haaland of Manchester City broke the deadlock in the 19th minute. Milan however came back through Colombo’s brace. The Italian forward struck twice in quick succession, first in the 30th minute and again in the 34th, to give AC Milan a 2-1 lead at half-time.
City leveled in the 55th minute when Micah Hamilton’s cross was headed into the net by James McAtee. That remained the situation until Nasti’s winner that arrived courtesy of a deft pass by Belgian winger Alexis Saelemaekers.
In a friendly at SoFi Stadium, Arsenal tacked on a 2-1 win against Manchester United. Manchester United’s Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring in the 10th minute. A 26th-minute goal by Gabriel Jesus leveled things for Arsenal. The Gunners sealed the deal with a deciding goal by Gabriel Martinelli in the 81st minute.
Meanwhile, Celtic put in a thoroughly dominating performance in South Bend, Indiana to leave Chelsea in its wake 4-1. Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley scored in the first half before Luis Palma and Michael Johnston tacked on second-half goals. Christopher Nkunku scored late on a penalty to prevent a shutout for Chelsea.
Celtic, who beat Manchester City 4-3 in their previous match, carried this same attacking flair that gave the Londoners a hard time into this game, with an O’Riley strike in the 19th minute and Furuhashi’s goal at the 33rd minute setting the tone for the match.g
