Ademola Lookman is set for historical achievement to become the fourth Nigerian to win the UEFA Super Cup under the floodlights in Warsaw’s National Stadium when Atalanta takes on Real Madrid.
Lookman will have the chance to be in the elite class of other Nigerian footballers who have won the Super Cup. Finidi George and Nwankwo Kanu did so with Ajax in 1995; Celestine Babayaro won it with Chelsea in 1998.
In their first UEFA Super Cup final, Atalanta owes much to Lookman. The forward hit an impressive hat-trick in last month’s UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen to secure Gian Piero Gasperini’s side their second major trophy in the club’s 117-year history.
As Lookman prepares to captain Atalanta into this high-stakes match, he stands on the cusp of etching his name into the Nigerian football annals by adding the UEFA Super Cup to his list of triumphs.
