The organised labour had assembled at the airport at about 8:58 a.m. to impose their directive to members working in the aviation sector to prevent all flights to Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The protest is a part of a series of measures that the two labour unions have announced in on Imo State after the attack on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero.
The NLC and TUC declared a nationwide strike, that will take effect on Tuesday, November 14th, because of the face-off with the Imo State Government.
The workers’ unions commenced the procession as they all trooped out in a convoy heading to the airport.
They thereafter proceeded to block both the entry and exit ways of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The protesters tried to enter the airport but were halted by the military at the checkpoint. As a result of the refusal, the demonstrators barred the entry and exit points of the airport, leading to heavy traffic of vehicles on both sides of the airport, forcing travellers to make their way into the airport on foot.
