An Akwa Ibom State-owned Newspaper Company in charge of publishing Pioneer Newspaper had been ambushed by armed robbers on Friday night, killing one of the adhoc security guards, Mr Edet Obot.
According to reports, the hoodlums carried away valuables including a generator set, televisions and wire cables from the company.
Mr Umoette Umoette, the General Manager of the newspaper could not pick his calls to comment on the development, at press time.
Meanwhile an anonymous source had said that it seems the robbers had help from within.
The police public relations officer of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, ASP Timfon John, had to get back to the news reporters who reached out at the time of filing this report.
What They’re Saying
“It’s a very sad development to all of us here, and most unfortunate is that the security officer who was shot dead by the criminals was not even a staff of newspaper corporation, this cannot happen without an insider’s collaboration,” the anonymous source remarked.
