According to reports, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been offered a big-money move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal in the future. The Dutch defender is at a crossroads–with his contract at Liverpool set to end this summer, he remains undecided on what his immediate future holds yet his large frame casting longing looks towards top clubs across continents.
According to L’Equipe, Al Hilal have offered Van Dijk a deal worth over €20 million (£16.8 million) a year, which is a mouth-watering offer for him. The 33-year-old continues to concentrate on the final sprint towards the Premier League title with Liverpool and he hasn’t completely closed the door on going to the Middle East.
Many of the Liverpool fans hope to keep Van Dijk away from potential buyers, but the question is becoming fierce. The biggest European teams, such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are foreign entities that want him while reports increased after Van Dijk was seen speaking with Paris Saint-Germain officials following Liverpool’s elimination from the Champions League.
Mohamed Salah, who is also a major target for Saudi clubs, may be reunited with Virgil van Dijk at Al Hilal. However, Barcelona have also been touted as a landing place for the Egyptian striker.
Van Dijk is set to make a final decision this summer, with Liverpool looking to persuade him to stay in the face of growing interest from abroad.
