Alibaba Sounds Alarm on Occult Practices Among Aspiring Artists in Candid Interview

In a recent interview, comedian and actor Akunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, made a controversial claim. He asserted that many aspiring artists engage in occult practices before securing record label deals. Alibaba highlighted a concerning issue within the industry, where the relentless pursuit of fame has driven talented individuals to venture into uncharted and often unethical territories.

According to Alibaba, these practices are just one facet of the problems faced by young artists. He emphasized that peer pressure and the intense desire for recognition and success often lead these artists to compromise their core values. In his words, “People just want to blow; they want to be seen, they want to be heard, they want to make money, they want to belong.”

Alibaba stressed the importance of artists defining their purpose and holding onto their moral compass. He argued that genuine creativity should not require any form of pressure, coercion, or oaths.

Furthermore, Alibaba pointed out that some artists successfully maintain their integrity despite industry pressures. They refrain from indulging in vices like smoking or excessive drinking, even when it’s suggested for music videos.

Adding to the discussion, artiste and producer Olawale Luqman, who was also present on the show, shed light on the pitfalls young artists face when presented with record label contracts. Luqman highlighted the allure of large sums of money and the pressure to sign these contracts without fully understanding their implications.

He revealed that some contracts disguise hefty advances as loans, trapping artists in financial obligations. Additionally, Luqman mentioned cases where artists were initiated into certain groups instead of signing traditional contracts, further underscoring the need for caution.

In light of these revelations, it becomes crucial for aspiring artists to exercise caution and diligence when considering record label deals. The recent tragedy involving the late singer Ilerioluwa Olademeji, known as Mohbad, serves as a sobering reminder of the potential risks.

To safeguard their interests, young artists should take the following steps before signing any contract with a record label:

Seek Legal Counsel: Always consult with a lawyer who specializes in entertainment contracts. They can help you understand the terms and protect your rights.

Contract Scrutiny: Thoroughly review the contract terms, especially regarding advances, royalties, and contract duration. Ensure you fully comprehend the financial implications.

Avoid Pressure: Do not succumb to pressure or hype. Take your time to evaluate the deal and its long-term consequences.

Verify Promises: Ensure that any promises made by the label are put in writing within the contract.

Independence: Maintain your creative independence and artistic integrity. Do not compromise your values for the sake of fame.

The entertainment industry can be a challenging terrain for young artists, but with vigilance, legal guidance, and a commitment to personal values, they can navigate it safely and preserve their artistic integrity. The tragic case of Mohbad serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of making informed and cautious decisions in the pursuit of a music career.
