Reports have come in stating that the Aljazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh has been shot dead by Israeli militant forces. the news which was broken by the Palestinian ministry of health depicted the incident to have happened on Wednesday as she was documenting a series of raids by the Israeli military in the city of Jenin which is located on the northern west bank. Although, the longtime TV correspondent for Aljazeera Arabic was hurried to a nearby hospital quickly after she was declared dead in the early hours of the morning at around 7:15 am.
Abu Akleh was standing with a group of fellow correspondents when she was shot and the survivors described the attack to have happened without warning. Ali Al-samoudi another Aljazeera correspondent who received a bullet to the back was able to describe the incident to the press. He and the other correspondents said that they were all wearing press vests and that there were no Palestinian fighters at the scene directly confronting an Israeli.
His declaration pinned the blame on Palestinian forces. “we were going to film the Israeli military procedure and abruptly they shot us without inquiring of us to leave or stop filming” said al-samoudi. The first bullet hit me and the second hit Shireen.
There was no Palestinian military resistance at all at the site. His colleagues confirmed his testimony and added that the correspondents were specifically targeted. Details are still developing about the case with the only clear piece of information so far being Abu Akleh’s life ending with a wound shot to the head.
