Fernandes’s links with Old Trafford have been heavily speculated but Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim discounted the rumors inferring the Portuguese player is instrumental to the future of the club.
He has scored two goals in the first leg of the Europa League semi final against Athletic Bilbao helping United claim a crucial 3-0 victory during this season which has seen him performing exceptionally well. Although some saw Saudi giants Al-Hilal pursuing Fernandes as a realistic transfer, Amorim made clear the club wouldn’t be spending after the player.
“Our idea didn’t change,” said Amorim in his presser before heading on to the second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday. “We don’t want to let the best players, and Bruno is arguably the best player in the world, go. He is a phenomenal footballer who captains our squad, leads our side, and we need him.”
This season Fernandes has created 145 chances for his teammates making him the most creative player in the Europe has seen this season while also managing to score 19 goals and deliver 16 assists, being edged only by Salah for goal contributions from a Premier League team.
Even though the league campaign is not encouraging, United remain unbeaten in 13 EPL Europa League matches and are most likely to win the title. Nonetheless, Amorim labeled the continent’s victory “the worst season in 50 years” for failing to mask domestic disappointments.
