Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards was fined $35,000 by the NBA for delaying his exit off the court and tossing a ball into the stands after he was ejected in Thursday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The fine is Edwards’ sixth of the season, bringing his total for penalties to $320,000. The 22-year-old has been punished for a number of infractions, the most famous of which involve foul language in interviews and an obscene gesture on court.
Edwards was thrown out after picking up his second technical foul for arguing with a referee. Earlier in the game, he and the Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt got into shoving match with each other, resulting in each of them receiving a technical.
Now the Timberwolves star leads the league with 16 technical fouls this season, accruing an automatic one-game suspension in the process, which he served during Friday’s loss to the Utah Jazz. Five technical fouls will lead to suspension; it’s every two after that.
“He’s got to be better,” Timberwolves Coach Chris Finch said. “They’re going to miss some calls, but he’s had too many tantrums. We’ve addressed that with him and it’s on him.”
