Ganduje has faced numerous controversies and challenges as the national leader of the APC since corruption charges were leveled against him. Amidst court orders and internal strife, party members have accused him of anti-party activities and demanded his disassociation. However, there has been no consensus on his suspension.
Despite the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership nullifying the suspension imposed by 12 ward chairmen in the Dawakin Tofa local government area of Kano State, another faction in the same council has announced the suspension of Abdullahi Ganduje, the former state governor, with immediate effect.
The new faction claims legitimacy as the council’s party leaders and asserts their right to suspend Ganduje. Speaking at a press conference, the faction’s Secretary, Ja’afar Ganduje, emphasized Ganduje’s suspension due to alleged anti-party activities and failure to pay party dues for several months. They also blame him for exacerbating factionalism at the ward level, tarnishing the party’s reputation.
“We are the legitimate executives of Ganduje ward, and we have unanimously decided to suspend Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for various reasons,” the faction’s Secretary stated. “Among these reasons are his role in internal conflicts within the party at the ward level and his involvement in anti-party activities during the 2023 elections, which contributed to the party’s failure in the state.”
