The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party has just released the list of successful candidates in the governorship primaries it conducted across the country. The primaries were held in 28 out of the 36 states in preparation for the general election taking place in 2023. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security operatives were on hand to monitor the exercise and ensure everything went calmly and smoothly.
The winners of the primaries in each state are:
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State who plans to extend his tenure by other terms when he wins the elections; Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who like the Lagos State governor is seeking to nab another term in office; Engineer A.A Sule, the incumbent governor of Nasarawa state; Professor Zulum, seeking another term in office as the Governor of Borno State; Governor Dapo Abiodun, another incumbent governor in Ogun State;
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and Representing Senator for the Delta Central Senatorial District won the Delta State governorship primaries with a total of 1190 votes; Governor Bello Matawalle who snagged the Zamfara APC Governorship ticket on Thursday; Tonye Cole with 986 votes for the Rivers State ticket and High Chief Ikechi Emenike who pulled 672 votes to defeat all opponents and emergence the Abia State Governorship candidate for the party.
