The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission has announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in all 17 chairmanship seats and 178 councillor positions in the recently concluded local government elections.
Dr. Mamman Mohammed, Chairman of the Commission, revealed this shocking news after the collation of results. Despite the participation of other political parties, none managed to secure even a single position. Yes, folks, a clean sweep for the APC. Who could have predicted it?
Certificates of return will soon be presented to these “winners,” and a swearing-in ceremony by Governor Mai Mala Buni will take place at a date yet to be determined. Governor Buni, in a rare moment of voting in his hometown, reminded everyone of his noble intentions since 2019 to grant Local Government Areas (LGAs) autonomy.
He earnestly stated, “I am not opposed to local government autonomy. When I came onboard in 2019, my concept was to give autonomy to the local government. Unfortunately, about 6 out of the 17 local government areas can’t even pay their salaries, so the wisdom behind this joint account is complimenting the efforts of the local governments with the state.”
The election took place in a notably peaceful atmosphere, a significant departure from the past when voters risked their lives amidst Boko Haram insurgency threats. It’s almost as if the peaceful atmosphere coincided perfectly with the APC’s inevitable and total victory.
So, to sum up: APC won everything, and we should all be very, very surprised.
