Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, has returned to full training after almost two months out due to an ankle injury sustained during the September international break. The Norwegian midfielder, initially feared to miss the rest of the year, is now on course to feature in Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Without Odegaard, the Gunners have been on something of a rollercoaster. Coming off a poor 2-0 Premier League defeat at the hands of Bournemouth and a narrow 1-0 Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, they’ve just lost 1-0 to Newcastle United to further hamper their form. Manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged the injury worries but wouldn’t blame them as an excuse for the drop in form.
The Gunners’ defensive ranks remain thin with Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Kieran Tierney still out- each without a set return date. The expected return of Odegaard is good enough as Arsenal aims to keep their Champions League unbeaten record intact against the Serie A giants.
The Gunners, therefore, with their captain back in tow, hope to cash in on his creativity and leadership in Milan to bounce back from recent disappointments and cement their European campaign.
