It has been reported that Arsenal have already launched the process of negotiating a brand-new deal with Jurriën Timber, a defender from the Netherlands. This step by the Gunners signals Timber’s rising role in Mikel Arteta’s scheme.

Actually, the 24-year-old was brought over from Ajax in 2023 for £34.4 million ($45m) but he was largely sidelined in his debut campaign due to a severe knee injury sustained at the start of the match against Nottingham Forest. Having barely returned in May 2024, Timber has since racked up more games than anyone else at the right-back position with 48 appearances in total last season and 8 already in 2025–26.

As per BBC Sport, the negotiation process with the Timber camp is still tentative, however, there is “a desire from everybody” to sign an extension to his current contract that expires in 2028. In recent months, the Gunners have committed to new deals for William Saliba, Gabriel, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Leandro Trossard.

Moreover, the club are looking at Bukayo Saka as well. Arsenal’s management are very positive in their prediction that, even though he has suffered an injury setback, the captain will commit to the club long-term. In the midweek Champions League match against Olympiacos, Saka netted his comeback goal, which gives Arteta further hope in assembling a squad that is devoted to sustained success.
