Christian Purslow has announced his departure as the CEO of Aston Villa after serving in the role for five years, according to a statement by the Premier League club on Monday. The 59-year-old executive leaves behind a club that has experienced a remarkable resurgence under the guidance of manager Unai Emery, securing a place in Europe by finishing seventh in the Premier League.
Expressing his gratitude, Purslow stated that it has been an absolute privilege for him to lead Villa over the past five years. “I am proud that I leave the club in a much better position on and off the pitch than when I arrived”
When Purslow joined the club, Villa was competing in the second-tier Championship, shortly after owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris took charge. The team’s forthcoming season will mark their return to European competition, participating in the Europa Conference League, a feat they haven’t achieved since the 2010-2011 season.
