Nigeria and Nottingham Forest Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, in the wake of surviving a coma caused by a very bad condition, has made it clear that he is grateful to the fans, friends, and medical personnel with a post on his social media account.
The 27-year-old star was seriously injured when he impacted the goal post and tore his intestines in a match with Leicester City of the Premier League.
Even though Awoniyi attempted to continue the game after the incident, he was immediately referred to the hospital for emergency surgery and was put into a coma to speed up his recovery. He is now out of the coma and recovering; although he will not be able to play for the rest of the season.
In an emotional Instagram post, Awoniyi shared these warm words: “This season has been one of the hardest in my career, but I have felt so much love. By God’s grace, I’m still here, still smiling, and still fighting.” He was greatly thankful for the fans, who, alongside the Nottingham Forest staff, his teammates, were of great support; their visits, and messages gave him strength in the very trying times. “I feel them and carry them with me every day as I recover,” he added.
Awoniyi also bade his teammates well and pledged to come back reenergized and stronger. There has been an outpour of relief and support from the soccer fraternity after his message went public.
