Fuji icon KWAM 1 has pushed back strongly against individuals challenging his ancestry and his ambition to become the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
The debate intensified after the veteran musician formally submitted his application last Wednesday to be considered for the revered royal position, which became vacant following the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July at age 91, ending a remarkable 64-year reign.
Since announcing his interest, KWAM 1’s eligibility has sparked heated discussions, particularly online, where many have cast doubts on whether he is truly an indigene of Ijebuland.

Responding during a recent stage performance, the singer—visibly emotional—asserted without hesitation that his heritage is genuine and unquestionable.
Declaring his roots, he said, “I am from the Fidipotemole in Ijebu Ode. It is the same me that is also from the Fusegbunwa of Ijebu-Ode. If you are questioning my lineage at this point, we will meet at Popo. If it is because of the kingship I am vying for, it is my right; you cannot shut me up.”
To reinforce his claim, KWAM 1 invoked the memory of the late Awujale, noting that the revered monarch would never have honoured him with the notable title of Olori Omo-Oba if he were not truly from a royal bloodline.
He added, “Late Kabiesi Awujale, Oba Adetona was of sound mind when he bestowed on me the title of Olori Omo-Oba if I’m not from a royal lineage. Awujale is not a covetous person, I therefore invoke your spirit to please reveal what is hidden to the people. They want to cover up the truth.”
KWAM 1 maintains that his ancestry entitles him to vie for the throne and insists that no amount of public scrutiny can alter the legitimacy of his heritage.
