Yes, you read right! The odds are in favour of Babatunde Raji Fashola, the minister for works and housing, to clinch the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The minister who was once a two term governor of Lagos State recorded remarkable successes when at the helm of affairs, he was a great propeller of the greater Lagos vision.
Even with the underperforming remark of this present presidential administration, two ministries are rated highly and can be said to have performed at least to some extent; The ministry of transportation under Rotimi Amechi, and the ministry of works and housing under Babatunde Raji Fashola.
Definitely, aside from his successes and good performance rating, he will be needing more than that to clinch the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress.
That is where the joker comes to play. We all know Fashola is a great loyalist of Jagaban, he has benefited immensely from Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is also a strong contender for the APC presidential ticket.
However, with unverified reports surrounding the health situation of the respected APC leader, there are reports in some political quarters that Tinubu will be left with no choice than to collapse his structure for the emergence of Babatunde Raji Fashola.
Taking a critical look at both individuals, it is safe to say Babatunde Raji Fashola has a far better image compared to the latter, the minister for works and housing achievements are there for all to see, what he did as Lagos State governor is not blind to the people. That’s not to rubbish the achievements of the great lion of Bourdillon, the man who’s acclaimed to have made men, of course Babatunde Raji Fashola is his stooge.
With the right political structure and backing, Babatunde Raji Fashola will clinch the ticket. You can take to the bank.
But what is in for Nigerians if he eventually clinches the ticket?
Having critically analyzed the political terrain and dispensation heading towards the general elections of 2023, it’s safe to say we don’t have too much of a choice as a nation, we are left to choosing among two evils.
The evils here are the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, this is the reason for my position.
You don’t need an angel to tell you that what we’ve been doing successfully and what we are good at doing the most is rebranding old unfit politicians who should be rotting fat in jail.
A serious country shouldn’t have some so called leaders as leaders. Most of our political actors are the major reason why we are still here as a nation, but that’s another story for another time.
Babatunde Raji Fashola will be coming with great load of experience and expertise after manning the most important ministries in this present presidential administration, as he was once referred to as the “super minister” in some quarters.
He definitely knows how the Nigerian system works, especially the way the legislative arm slows down executive processes at times, he’s a grounded legal luminary.
But one of those dents on his image will be when he turned himself to “Lekki Jack Bauer” after he found a hidden camera at the Lekki Toll Gate, following the alleged massacre that occurred at the EndSars protest.
Well that’s not to forget the allerged millions he allocated for a website during his tenure as governor of Lagos State
It will be so naive for anyone to still trust Nigerian politicians, and that why I’m still claiming we don’t have too much of a choice come 2023.
I will choose Babatunde Raji Fashola for president against anyone though, not even Jonathan ticks the box, and if we are seriously serious as a Nation we shouldn’t even be talking about Jonathan’s candidacy
The atrocities that went on under his watch is alarming, call it propaganda or whatever, he didn’t rise to the occasion at all.
Yes I know 2022 will be filled with surprises, but don’t rule out a Fashola presidential candidacy.
