The Unexpected Departure

Councilman Kach, 78, stepped down on May 7, 2026, citing “unforeseeable” health challenges. In a letter addressed to the council, he expressed deep regret, noting that these health issues were not present during his last successful election campaign in 2022.

Despite his health struggles, Kach noted he is fully committed to ensuring the transition for District 3 is as seamless as possible. Before his two terms on the County Council (elected in 2014), Kach served for an impressive 40 years in the Maryland House of Delegates.

A Legacy of Bipartisan Respect

The news of his resignation has prompted a wave of support from colleagues across the political spectrum, highlighting his reputation as a responsive and dedicated public servant.

“He leaves behind a long record of public service focused on helping people and being responsive to his constituents. Wade earned respect on both sides of the aisle because people knew where he stood.” — County Executive Klausmeier

Councilman Julian Jones also weighed in, praising Kach’s diverse career, which began as a local teacher before moving into state and county politics. Jones offered his thoughts to the Kach family, wishing the former Councilman strength and a full recovery.

What’s Next for District 3?

While the immediate focus remains on Kach’s health, the council will soon have to address the vacancy left in District 3. Kach’s departure leaves big shoes to fill, given his combined 51 years of experience in Maryland and Baltimore County governance.
