Sunday Barcelona will be at Estadi Johan Cruyff again for their La Liga clash with Getafe, after unsuccessful attempts to release the Spotify Camp Nou.
The Catalans were eager to make their way back home, but the slow administrative approvals have kept Hansi Flick’s side at the temporary 6,000 capacity stadium. Last weekend Barcelona already set a negative record, achieving the lowest La Liga attendance of the 21st century with 5,862 spectators attending their 6-0 win over Valencia.
‘FC Barcelona is still working very hard to get the permits needed for the opening of the Spotify Camp Nou,’ the Blaugrana wrote in a corporate message. ‘The Club is grateful to its members and supporters for their understanding at such a complex and exciting time.’
Instead of the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Barcelona could have been on their way there that adios 10, their home for the last two seasons, but the decision was made not to proceed, as reports suggest that the economic and the administrative aspects were factors affecting the decision negatively.
Now the club has to hurry and sort out everything for the match against Real Sociedad on September 28. It is regarded as a key date since PSG will visit on October 1 for the Champions League. If it is not held at Camp Nou, Barça will be kept off the stadium for all their European nights until 2025.
