It is reported that Barcelona will not pursue their option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently from Manchester United at the end of his loan spell with the club.

The Catalan newspaper has suggested that they are to send the England International back to Old Trafford despite his success at the Nou Camp, which saw him score 14 and assist another 14 in all competitions for the Spanish giants.

The ex-Manchester United frontman was key in the Catalan club securing both the La Liga title and Spanish Super Cup in the 2025-26 campaign; however, despite his success with them, they are looking set against paying the 30m(35m) purchase clause at the end of the loan.

Barcelona will most likely opt against signing Rashford due to the recent signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for a fee of 70m, with the latter expected to compete for the left-wing role with Raphinha. Despite his versatility, a high wage demand is likely one of the main reasons which has prevented Barcelona from pursuing the signing.

This leaves the 28-year-old with an unknown future at Manchester United, where he will return after his loan move, upon the conclusion of the World Cup. He will now be aiming to impress for his country in the World Cup in North America; he is expected to be subject to offers from European clubs this summer.
