Benin Republic, Togo Owe Nigeria $5.8M in Electricity Debt

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that Benin Republic and Togo owe Nigeria $5.79 million for the electricity they used in the second quarter of 2024. This debt is part of the $15.60 million that was billed for electricity used from April to June 2024.

According to NERC’s second-quarter report, Para-SBEE in Benin Republic paid 71.21% of the $4.29 million they were billed, while Transcorp-SBEE in Benin paid the full $4.25 million charged by Nigeria. Mainstream-NIGELEC in Togo paid 69.72% of $3.59 million, and Odukpani-CEET in Togo did not make any payments during this period.

International customers paid a total of $9.81 million out of the billed amount, which is 62.88% of what was owed. Transcorp-SBEE and Mainstream-NIGELEC have cleared all their past due bills.

In Nigeria, customers paid N1.30 billion in the second quarter, which is 65.07% of the total bill of N1.99 billion.
