At United State Vice President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, five additional
papers with secret markings were found, the president’s counsel announced on
Saturday.
According to attorneys, the documents were found on Thursday and immediately given to Justice Department representatives.
Richard Sauber, the special counsel for Biden, claimed to have helped with the transfer to the Justice Department on Thursday.
At his Delaware home, Biden’s legal team acknowledged finding classified records
about his time serving as vice president.
According to Sauber, Biden’s attorneys have taken “prompt and voluntary action” to turn over all the records to the appropriate parties.
The president had instructed Biden’s attorney, Bob Bauer, to “be transparent and fully cooperative with the National Archives and Records Administration and the Justice Department regarding the papers,” according to Bauer in a statement.
Other records were discovered at Biden’s house.
Several documents were uncovered by Biden’s legal team at his former think tank office in Washington on November 2.
The records were created when Biden was Barack Obama’s vice president and are from that period.
Another set of papers, including a few in the president’s garage, was discovered this
week at Biden’s Delaware home.
Questions about how the circumstances compare with the seizure of hundreds of
documents marked as classified from Mar-a-Lago, the Florida mansion of former
President Donald Trump, have been raised in light of the discovery of classified
materials at offices that former Vice President Joe Biden once used as well as at his
home.
Since Trump left office in January 2021, some 300 documents have been found at his residences. A total of 33 boxes and containers containing 11,000 papers were taken by FBI agents from Mar-a-Lago in August, including about 100 with classification markings discovered in a storage room and an office.
FBI agents removed 33 boxes of documents from Mar-a-Lago in August 2022. After
Trump’s attorneys submitted a sworn certification stating that all federal records had
been returned, a search was conducted.
Trump declared his campaign for president in 2024 in November. Biden has not yet said if he would run for re-election.
