The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission -EFCC, has found billions of Naira in cash hidden in different houses of certain serving governors.
While the EFCC boss has declined to reveal the identity of the three governors caught, several sources had already, on Friday, November 4, identified the governors as Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, and Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.
Meanwhile, the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa had previously said that the three serving state governors were being closely watched over their moves to launder stashed billions of naira through the disbursement of salaries to workers.
This development is coming after the Central Bank of Nigeria’s announcement, saying that it would redesign some naira notes, giving the deadline for the circling to the old notes to be January 31, 2023.
This led to the rush by top politicians, traders, investors, and several members of the public to try and convert hidden funds into dollars, property, and other legal tenders.
Additionally, the intelligence at the crime commission had revealed that the three governors had finished plans to inject money into the system by paying workers’ salaries.
