The internet is agog with the news of Bobrisky winning the Best Dressed Female award at a fashionable movie premiere event of Eniola Ajao’s movie, Ajakaju in Lagos. The award, had come with a cash prize of N1 million and was presented over the weekend, but several hours after the event had taken place, it has caused much controversy and debate on social media.
What is the controversy?
Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju aka Bobrisky, is a Nigerian public figure who habitually captures the public eye with his fashion choices and persona. He also occasionally causes controversy and it seems that this time is no different.
The bone of contention this time around was when she was chosen among all the biological females at a Lagos event and presented with the Best Dressed Female Award.
This decision had not gone down well with a lot of people, netizens and celebrities alike.
One of such people, Dayo Amusan, a Nigeria actress, had reacted via a video message she posted on her Instagram account. In the video, Amusa had said that it was a mockery of the women present at the event.
The frustrated actress had questioned the criteria used by the judges, going further to say that the recognition of a crossdresser as the best dressed female subverted the efforts of all the other women who attended the premiere.
The actress finally remarked that if the intention was to honour crossdressers, a separate category should have been established, rather than “disrespecting women” by allocating the female-centric award to a crossdresser.
On the other hand, a video of Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham had reportedly lost her mind after she was told who won the best-dressed female at the event.
The actress found it ridiculous that Bobrisky was crowned the best-dressed female at the premiere, considering that the crossdresser was a man. The producer and actress had afterwards called the award presenter crazy.
This scandal is happening after Bobrisky had taken to his Instagram page to denounce the title of cross-dresser being used to refer to him. According to him, he was a transgender.
