Zimbabwe and Botswana are presently working on a bilateral deal to remve passport requirements for each other’s citizens.
The two countries are join the increasing wave of African countries dropping off entry restrictions for visitors from the continent.
Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson had on Thursday, following talks with Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi said:
“The two of us have acquiesced because we are Africans. We should be able to travel to Botswana, walk into Zambia, walk into Kenya freely. So then why should we restrict ourselves?”
“The constraints we impose on ourselves are more of a colonial thing than are patriotic, so we agreed that President Masis (representing his country) and myself on my side are going to enjoin the relevant departments to ease these constraints of movement of people between both our countries”.
