The Chief Justice of the federation, Justice Tanko Muhammed has reportedly resigned. He quit on Sunday night due to illness, according to Channels Television, which cited sources.
According to Ahuraka Yusuf Isah, the CJN’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, he said, “All I know is that he’s going to declare open a workshop this morning at the NJI (National Judicial Institute).”
Other attempts to contact the CJN’s close friends and allies, like Dr. Mike Ozekhome (SAN), were unsuccessful since they did not pick up the phone.
According to information, plans are currently being made to appoint Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the next-highest ranking justice on the Supreme Court, as interim Chief Justice of Nigeria after the Senate confirmed his position.
According to reports, an official announcement will happen soon.
There were rumors that Justice Tanko Muhammad was gravely ill before his resignation.
Just last week, fourteen Supreme Court justices sent him a letter in which they bemoaned the sorry state of affairs at the court.
