Douye Diri has surged ahead in the race, particularly in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. The election’s drama unfolded with intense friction between Diri and his main opponent, Sylva, marked by a flurry of accusations and irregularities. Both sides pointed fingers at each other for election violence, creating quite the spectacle.
As the results trickled in, Diri from the People Democratic Party (PDP) took the lead, scoring 24,685 votes, while his closest rival, Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 18,174 votes. The Labour Party trailed behind with a modest 119 votes out of the 50,153 accredited voters.
