The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, have announced a 7-day warning strike to demand the payment of four months withheld salaries of their members, after the 2022 nationwide academic union strike.
The decision had been part of the resolve of the joint action committee of the two unions, after a meeting was held in Akure at the weekend.
Mohammed Ibrahim, the President of SSANU had disclosed this while reading the Communiqué of the meeting to newsmen in Abuja on Monday, March 11.
Ibrahim had observed that the decision to embark on the warning strike was taken as a last resort since a lot of protest letters and other communications with the federal government had not resulted in the payment of the withheld salaries.
This newest development is coming on the heels of recent nationwide protests by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) over the current economic hardship, which had led to skyrocketing costs of living across the country.
