Bruno Fernandes will sit out Portugal’s game against Norway after the midfielder disclosed he had been carrying an injury for a number of games.
Jorge Jesus, the Portugal boss, said that the United captain had a problem when arriving for international duty and had been playing through it for perhaps three games.
“He’s come from United with an injury. As he said himself, he’s been managing that over the last three games,” Jesus said.
Fernandes, who played out of position on the left wing in Portugal’s win over Wales on Thursday, was substituted in the 90th minute.
Fernandes has also been spared any risk from Jesus, with the Portugal boss preparing to give Fernandes the weekend off to see if he can make the trip to play Denmark on October 1.
“I don’t want to risk anything in this game and have him in perfect condition, with a clean bill of health for the Denmark match,” Jesus told a press conference.
It should be the other headache at Manchester United as the games start to pile up after the international break.
And it will include a big match against Tottenham Hotspur, as well as games against Leeds United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, with three games in the Champions League also scheduled.
The Red Devils has used his presence consistently since buying him from Sporting Lisbon in 2020.
