Yes! You read the headline right. Cowboy fits and everything it entails are seeing a resurgence in the media at the moment, no thanks to Hollywood. Top celebrities like Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, and yes, you guessed it, Beyoncé, all have a part to play in this. But first, cowboy core.
Cowboy core is essentially an outfit consisting of a cowboy hat, fringed waistcoat, trousers, scarf, boots e.t.c, worn by either an adult or a child, male or female. The United States’ Western fashion and cowboy style has been low-key trending, in fact, that as at 2022, fashion designers had during the autumn/winter collections, hopped on the wave.
Now though, the wave has reached a fever pitch and I am keen to see stylists and fashion enthusiasts put their own spin to the fashion as they incorporate it during red carpet events, when out-and-about on the streets or during campaigns and photoshoots.
Below, I’ll be highlighting the celebrities who have delved into this fashion style so far this year:
Ayra Starr:
Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr had jumped on the burgeoning trend, sporting cowboy fashion in one of her recently released music video, ‘You’re Hired’ featuring Neiked— a Swedish art group of singers, songwriters and record producers.
The young, fashionable songstress had appeared in various scenes of the music video donning a cowboy hat, a western-inspired brown top and a pair of blue ripped jeans.
The extras in the music video were not left out as they had all sported different variations of Western wear.
Pharrell Williams:
As we were all ushering in the New Year, 2024, and congratulating ourselves for surviving 2023, Mr Williams was busy in the kitchen cooking up a new collection for Louis Vuitton, his second yet as a designer. The LV show artfully combined Western American and Native American fashion with modern luxury.
Both male and female models had strutted the runway, wearing leather cowboy hats, cowhide valises, checkered denim jackets decorated with bull badges, and cowboy boots sporting shiny metal points.
Rodeo outerwear glimmered with intricate embroideries and belts showcased the luxurious craftsmanship synonymous with the Louis Vuitton brand.
Lastly, this musician-turned designer was photographed wearing cowboy fashion while attending Loewe’s womenswear Fall/Winter 2024-2025 show in Paris earlier this month.

Beyoncé:
They music icon stole the attention from the Super Bowl night when she announced in February that she would be dropping a country-themed record later in March.
It should be noted that Queen Bey has been softly promoting western fashion since brokering a deal with Adidas in 2021.

It will be very interesting to see how arguably, the most influential fashion influencer in the world, reinterprets the Western aesthetic through her own lens as she drops more content —music and fashion-wise— in the upcoming months.
Kim Kardashian:
Beauty mogul and reality TV star, Kim K, had hopped on the trend back in February, for Michael Rubin’s Super Bowl party in Las Vegas this year. The SKIMS founder had shared pictures of what she wore at the party on Instagram.
Her fit had consisted of a dark brown plunging cowl neck top with a matching brown flared pants. To top off the look, she went with a black cowboy hat by Kemo Sabe and for accessories, she opted for a small black croc Hermès Kelly handbag.
In another picture she shared, a black furry maxi coat worn over her outfit had added a dramatic flair to the whole ensemble.
How to achieve the cowboy core aesthetic?
Now that you’ve seen the ways these celebrities have re-imagined the trend, you’re probably looking to try your hands at it too.
You can start slow and small by firstly, opting to wear double-denim, vintage leathers, bolo ties, western-style belts and hints of turquoise. Thereafter, you can ramp it up to buying a nice pair of cowboy boots or a cowboy hat. Get creative and get stylin’!
