The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has made a call demanding a probe to be sent into the case of the girl murdered over blasphemy claims in Sokoto. The president made the statement in a post released on his official Twitter handle, condemning the murder and ordering investigations to be made into the incident which occurred on Thursday. The girl, Deborah Samuel was a 200-level student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto before her untimely death.

In the press release, the president strongly condemned the resort to self-help by the mob in Sokoto which resulted in violence, destruction, and the murder of the second-year student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, following allegations of blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed (SAW). The president described the killing of the woman by her fellow students as a matter of grave concern and demanded that an impartial and extensive probe be made into the events that occurred that Thursday afternoon.

He reminded Nigerians that no person has the right to take the law into their hands and insisted that violence had never and would never solve a problem.  He further directed the Ministries of Police Affairs, Communications and Digital Economy, and Information and Culture to collaborate with tech companies and telecommunications providers to contain the spread of misinformation and inflammatory comments.
