President Muhammadu Buhari denounced the assassination of Chief Oyibo Chukwu, the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, and his aide yesterday.
The perpetrators of this heinous atrocity in Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area, Enugu State, according to the President, have no regard for human life or dignity, and so deserve the wrath of natural and divine justice.
The President reaffirmed his stated commitment to a free and fair election, reminding all political actors that it is the electorate’s choice that counts and that all eligible Nigerians should exercise their civic rights without fear of intimidation.
The President urged security forces to track down the perpetrators of the horrible murder, while also expressing his condolences to the victims’ families, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the Labour Party.
President Buhari prayed for the peace of the souls of the departed and consolation for those in mourning in a message made available to The Guardian by the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
