The president of Nigeria, Mohammed Buhari while on a visit to the headquarters of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in Madrid, Spain, on Wednesday, said that the country is willing and ready to host the upcoming Global Conference on Tourism, Culture, and the creative Industry.
Nigeria was granted the opportunity to host this conference in May and this conference has been slated to hold in Lagos at the National Theatre in November.
The president said that hosting this event has allowed Nigeria to display its creativity in culture and tourism to the whole world. He assured the organization that Nigeria would make sure to deliver a world-class performance at the conference and it would be safe and secure for all participants.
The President also thanked the Secretary-General of the organization for giving Nigerians scholarships into the UNWTO Online Academy on the ‘Introduction to Tourism-Industry Management’. He said that this move would increase and educate the youth’s interest in the tourism sector.
The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, also confirmed that Nigeria has started the preparations for the conference which would be held in the national theatre that is being refurbished for the first time in 46 years. The minister added that the conference would indeed showcase what Nigeria is made of in matters relating to culture, tourism, music, film, and every creative aspect.
The Secretary-General of UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili however assured the President of the organization’s support to make the event a successful one. He said that there is a long time commitment to attract tourists to Nigeria as the numbers are very small.
“Nigeria has to receive much more tourists to see the beauty and meet the people.”
