President Muhammadu Buhari has scheduled to oversee the ground-breaking ceremony of Northern Nigeria’s first oil drill in Bauchi and Gombe states, respectively, on Tuesday, November 22.
The Kolmani Oil Prospecting Lease (OPL) 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site will be the first oil drilling in Northern Nigeria, after the discovery of oil in commercial volume in the region approximately two years ago, in 2020.
This discovery and exploration of crude oil in the north will be the first, after an attempt in the Borno region was canceled over insecurity in the region.
This is really not surprising as, in 2016, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited launched a search for oil in certain Northern states. The search led to the discovery of the oil in commercial quantities in Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, and Niger States.
Officials in the NNPC have said that the oil field in Bauchi and Gombe axis will be developed by Sterling Global Oil, New Nigeria Development Commission, NNDC, and NNPC Limited.
