Victor Osimhen was at his best today as Nigeria’s Super Eagles registered an important 2-0 win over Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Stade Amahoro Kigali.
The Super Eagles needed a win to rekindle their qualification hopes and their star forward did not disappoint, scoring both goals to take home all three points. Osimhen scored the opening goal in the 11th minute, finishing off with precision Ademola Lookman’s well-placed delivery from a free-kick. He then doubled Nigeria’s lead just before halftime, deftly chipping the Rwandan goalkeeper to record his 25th international goal.
Nigeria dominated the second half with a calm defensive display, ensuring that Osimhen’s first-half brace was enough for victory. That result saw the Super Eagles move to six points in Group C, one behind Rwanda, and maintain their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
This was also an ideal debut for new head coach Eric Chelle, who took the reins earlier this year. Nigeria will aim to build on this momentum when they face Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25 in their matchday six qualifier.
