The Indiana Fever star is about to be a single technical foul away from her first WNBA suspension. Caitlin Clark is one technical foul away from facing disciplinary action in the WNBA after her seventh of the season was upheld by the league in July.

The technical resulted in a game against the Connecticut Sun on July 22 after an exchange with Sun guard Saniya Rivers was overturned by Indiana, and the loss could result in an additional penalty for the rookie guard.

The call came when Rivers declared she was “locking up” Clark and the Fever guard said, “Look at the scoreboard.”

According to the WNBA, the officials “ruled it was a verbal tirade warranting a technical foul.” After the game, Clark scoffed at the issue and laughed, stating, “I’m never gonna back down” and insisting that “that intensity and that fire is what makes me me.”

Clark would face a $1,500 suspension – with an additional day’s suspension – the next time she receives another technical call; additional technicals will also result in additional financial penalties and suspension days with increasing frequency through the remainder of the 2024 season. Clark has had one incredible rookie season regardless of technical matters.

The 24-year-old racked up an impressive 32 points and dished out seven assists in Indy’s victory over the Seattle Storm shortly after the All-Star Game and now has 21.5 points and 7.9 assists per game leading into a crucial playoff push.
