It’s already been four days since the Cannes Film Festival began, and I’ve loved, hated, and cringed at some of the outfits I’ve seen on the red carpet this week.

What is the Cannes Film Festival All About?

Just in case you didn’t know, the Cannes Film Festival, which began on Tuesday, May 14, is an annual event that acknowledges international cinema and brings together actors, filmmakers, producers, critics, and distributors from around the globe. Basically, it is an exclusive event, and not just anybody can show up to it.

This Film Festival is one of the most reputable and recognized film competitions in the world currently, and it has a jury made up of professionals from all parts of the film industry. It is usually held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, France.

For this year’s event, popular American filmmaker Greta Gerwig will be the presiding jury for the main competition, while well-known French actress Camille Cottin will be the host of the opening and closing ceremonies.

There are six awards presented to the winners at the Cannes Film Festival: the Palme d’Or, Award for Best Actress, Award for Best Actor, Jury Prize, Award for Best Director, and Award for Best Screenplay.

The festival has long been a standout event for cool, awe-inspiring sartorial moments, and this year was no different.

Below, I have highlighted the best looks from the festival. Which celebrity do you think wore their outfit better?

Yseult

Yseult

This French singer looked stately in the custom Dior two-piece she wore, which referenced the designer’s New Look collection. I loved that it perfectly fitted her body frame, which is not something you always see in the plus-sized community. I have mixed feelings about the black latex gloves, though.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The Indian actress walked the red carpet in a custom Falguni and Shane Peacock 3D gown that featured puffy sleeves, a long trail adorned with golden floral embellishments, and a complex golden patchwork. I loved this look because it is not something you’d usually see on a red carpet.

Hunter Schafer

Hunter Schafer

Hunter Schafer stepped out to a Nespresso X Brut event in a Vivienne Westwood black gown adorned with red, yellow, blue, and white flowers. Always one to avoid playing it safe, the actress chose matching yellow mules to complement the ensemble.

Anya Taylor-Joy

Her bouclé tweed two-piece by Jil Sander was a showstopper and the cynosure of all eyes on the red carpet. To further seal the deal, she paired it with an intricate 1920s-inspired headpiece. This was an edgy look, no doubt, but she successfully pulled it off.

Cindy Bruna

If there were ever doubts that women could never pull off wearing a power suit, this actress just dispelled them. Let’s also not forget that she ditched the traditional gown on a red carpet and made a bold statement with her Laruicci zoot suit.

Taylor Hill

Captivating is the word that came to mind when I saw this model on the red carpet wearing a strapless white and black Balmain gown that featured a thigh-high slit.

Alton Mason

Alton Mason

This model is never afraid to make bold fashion choices, and he proved it when he wore a ‘snatched-at-the-waist’ Louis Gabriel Nouchi two-piece suit to the red carpet. This was an undeniably charming look.

Grace VanderWaal

Grace VanderWaal

This look gave off fairy vibes, which was refreshing to see on a red carpet. Her vintage gown by Cinema by Panos Zinas featured nude wispy tulle and looked nothing short of ethereal.

Alioune Badara Fall

The model graced the red carpet wearing a luxurious eggshell-colored silk suit. I love the way the suit was tailored with wide-leg trousers and a blazer fitted at the waist, making it stand out from the other everyday suits you see at the event.

Victoria Justice

Victoria Justice

I love her custom off-the-shoulder Zuhair Murad gown, which featured a see-through skirt. The look was perfect and fitting for the Cannes red carpet.
