There was chaos in a meeting convened by the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, which was stormed by angry members on Thursday in Umuahia, Abia State, saying he had organized an illegal meeting.
The protest focuses on the refusal to recognize David Onyebuchi Amalaha, who was elected Abia State AGN chairman in May 2023. According to members, Rollas has imposed five interim chairmen within the state this 2023 alone, a situation that has kept the guild divided and at unease.
The situation was almost turning violent but for the timely intervention of officers from the Zone 9 Police Command to restore peace. According to SP Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, no arrest was made but Rollas and the aggrieved members were invited by the police to make statements.
This incident is the latest in a series of leadership crises that have rocked the AGN, leaving members calling for unity and fairness.
