Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, spoke about the recent addition of Joao Felix to the squad ahead of the Conference League game with Servette. During Wednesday’s press conference, the former Feyenoord boss lauded the versatility of the 24-year-old Portuguese forward, citing that he plays variably either as a central striker, winger, or as an attacking midfielder.

“Well, first of all, because he is a good player, he is talent. The club has known him for two years. He can play different positions with us: inside, like a nine, outside,” Maresca said about Felix.

He also spoke about the challenge of managing a Chelsea squad that is 42 strong. He claims it’s “almost impossible” to keep players happy when only 11 can start any game. He explained, “Although we have 42 players, in reality, I work with 21, 22. Over 15 players train away from me.”.

On player contracts, Maresca was very clear that these are problems that do not bother him: “They can even have 20-year contracts. It’s none of my business, I don’t care.”

Maresca gave a definitive statement about Raheem Sterling, confident the winger—who was left out of the squad for last weekend’s Premier League opener—“will get zero minutes here.”
