Victor Osimhen has been the subject of intense transfer speculation from major clubs across Europe as a result of his barnstorming start to his second season in the Italian Serie A, with Champions League holders Chelsea the latest team reported to be willing to splash a princely €90 million on the Napoli striker.
Despite having signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter for a club record amount last season, Chelsea are thought to be interested in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian striker has nine goals and two assists in 12 appearances this season, helping Napoli to the top of the Italian Serie A and to the top of their Europa League group, making him one of Europe’s most prolific finishers. It is thought that the Blues hierarchy would be interested in making a move for him to bolster their attacking options.
This move comes a year after Napoli signed the 22-year-old from Ligue 1 side Lille OSC for €70 million. Real Madrid was also thought to be close to signing the striker, but the amount demanded was deemed too high for the La Liga club to pay.
The rumored number of €70 million is thought to be a sum that the Blues would be willing to pay in order to recruit the 22-year-old.
Chelsea may try to sign Osimhen to increase their chances of scoring more often, given their attackers’ mixed performances in front of goal.
Chelsea’s manager, Thomas Tuchel, is looking to bolster his offensive line after Timo Werner, Lukaku’s striking partner, has struggled to make an impact and the club may be willing to move him. Lukaku and Werner, who are both presently sidelined, have combined for just six goals, so pursuing Osimhen is a smart decision considering his physique and speed, which makes him a strong match for the Premier League.
