Chippa United have officially announced that Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has left the club after they mutually agreed to part ways, thus ending his time with the Betway Premiership club.

At 29, the player had already shown his intent to move on from the team, which made the announcement on Thursday almost a foregone conclusion. However, there is still some doubt about what will happen with his playing career in the short term, as the club confirmed the exit outside of the transfer window, which could mean that he might not become a free agent by default unless an agreement is reached before the January cut-off, which is something that the club did not mention.

Chippa United, in their statement, revealed that they were aware of the goalkeeper’s desire to leave and commended him for his effort. The club expressed their gratitude to Nwabali for his service and professional attitude throughout the time he was with them and extended their best wishes for him to have a successful career in the future.

He came to the South African club from Nigeria in 2022, and it did not take him long to make a mark as an indispensable player, thus earning the honor that saw him being called up to his country’s team. He has been the Super Eagles’ number one goalkeeper in the last two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.

In total, Nwabali featured in 76 games for Chippa, 12 of which were in the current campaign. The club has been using Dumisani Msibi and Elson Sithole as goalkeepers to give Nwabali some competition, and with his exit, it is likely that they will be the ones to take over the responsibility.
