The Delta State Government has confirmed the outbreak of cholera at Ikpide-Irri community, Isoko South Local Government Area of the State. At the time of filing this report, no death has been recorded.
Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the State Commissioner for Health, has explained that the situation is under control, adding that the death of two people in Ikpide-Irri was not related to the cholera outbreak that happened in that community.
Onojaeme also stressed that in most cases where they collected samples for testing of the disease, the results were yet to be out.
The Health Commissioner further stated that they did a lot of advocacy to the people on the need to improve their personal hygiene and take portable water.
“We gave them tablets that will help them purify their water. We also gave them health education and the ones that were infected with cholera were quickly treated. [Now] I can tell you categorically that the cholera outbreak is fully under control,” the Delta State Commissioner for Health explained.
