The Coachella Festival is the melting pot for fashion forward celebrities who are looking to have a good time listening to music and unwinding for the weekend.

These stars usually pioneer new fashion trends at the festival that will eventually truckle into main stream media and fond its way to the streets.

But what is the Coachella? Also called The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival or the Coachella Festival, it is an annual event that features musical artists from several genres of music (hiphop, EDM, pop, indie music, rock etc) sculptures and art installations.

This event was co-founded by Paul Tollett & Rick Van Santen in 1999, as a purely small-scale music festival but it has since evolved to a function for Hollywood celebrities, fashionistas and social media influencers.

The Coachella Festival is usually held at the Coachella Valley (Greater Palm Springs) in Indio, California, at the Empire Polo Club and this year’s first weekend event held on Friday 12 April until Sunday 14 April.

Now, I noticed a fashion pattern among some of the attendees. The cowboy/girl aesthetic was going strong, ballet-core too. Sequins, sheer and tassels don’t seem to be going anywhere, anytime soon too.

With no further ado, I bring to you, the best and the worst looks from Coachella’s first weekend:

The Best Looks

Chloe Bailey:

Chloe Bailey

This actress and singer wowed her fans with her performance and her purple outfit.

Her ensemble was made up of knit two piece pants, halter top, and gloves. To complete the jaw-dropping look with a striking purple makeup look and a fun pair of statement earrings.

Charli D’ Amelio:

The social media influencer took the centre stage at the Festival in her black bikini inspired outfit for the Celsius Energy’s Cosmic Desert party. She had donned a black and white head-tie with a monochrome bralet and a sheer low-rise skirt over her bikini bottom.

Megan Fox:

Megan Fox

Hollywood’s sultry actress, Megan Fox ate and left absolutely no crumbs at Coachella. Also invited for the Cosmic Desert Party by Celsius, the Hollywood star had stepped out wearing a straw hat over her newly debuted long blue hair, jean shorts, and a white tank top with a black jacket.

Halle Bailey:

Halle Bailey

Another Celsius Cosmic Desert party invitee, Halle had also gone to Coachella to support her sister Chloe Bailey, who was a performer at the music festival.

The ‘In Your Hands’ crooner had worn a sparkly aqua-colored top, jean shorts and cowboy boots. She had accessorised with a cross motif chain belt and dangly earrings.

The Worst Looks

Ice Spice:

Ice Spice

The Gen-Z rapper had worn a skintight, lacy I.AM.GIA bodysuit with ties at the legs, arms and chest. This was a way too revealing outfit, in my opinion. It would have been better off being either a standalone sheer bodysuit or a covered bodysuit with slits showing hints of skin.

Shakira:

The world famous singer, had performed at the stage donning a flame-inspired shredded minidress that showed off a lot of skin. I hope no-one feels offended when I can liken the fit an unfinished knitting project showcased too soon.

Doja Cat:

Doja Cat

Out of the many styles the rapper/singer wore during her performances, this particular get-up comprising few clothes and deliberately arranged synthetic extensions set me off. I just can’t seem to put my fingers to the vibe she was going for—then again, isn’t it a customary Doja Cat move?

Gwen Stefani:

Gwen Stefani

The singer, had for her performance, sported an ensemble that mixed plaids with mesh.

I don’t exactly know how to feel about this look but I wish the singer went for something more subtle. The plaid top was fine but I have issues with the bottoms and its many holes riddled with mesh nets and cutouts.
