Travelers from Jalingo to Wukari in Taraba State, and those commuting to southern states in Nigeria, are now forced to seek alternative routes due to the disintegration of a key bridge in the state.

The bridge, a connector to Jalingo, (the state capital), to Wukari and nearby Benue State, had been severely damaged after heavy rainfall which occurred on Thursday night.

The heavy downpour which began around 11 p.m. and lasted until 5 a.m. Friday, had caused significant flooding.

At the time of filing this report, the destroyed bridge has left the road impassable, causing major disruptions for travelers.

A local community leader, Nathaniel Ukule, who spoke with mews men had attributed the collapse to the immense volume of the downpour.

While appealing to the authorities to urgently put the bridge back in proper shape, he stressed the severe impact on travellers.

An eyewitness had further revealed how the travelers were now forced to take a much longer route through Garba-Chede in Bali local government council before they could access Jalingo, the administrative headquarters of the state.
