Chukwu Emeka, a comedian, and YouTuber who was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) have been given bail by a high court of justice sitting in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.
Mrs. Magaret Chukwu, the comedian’s mother said on Tuesday afternoon that her son had been released.
On his Facebook page, the attorney who later took over the case, Matthew Osa-oghogho, also revealed the comedian, better known by his stage name Broda Mike, had been released.
“Today, the High Court of justice sitting in Benin released Comedian Emeka Chukwu Aka #BrotherMike to bail. He was arrested by the Department of State Services and accused of inciting the Public. The court agreed with our submission that the application for the remand of Mr. Chukwu is unmeritous and therefore admitted him to bail. We stand for justice always and at all times!” He uploaded a photo of himself and Broda Mike.
The Department of State Services is said to have detained comedian and vlogger Chukwu Emeka on Monday in Benin, Edo State. Chukwu Emeka is also known online as Broda Mike.
It was learned that Chukwu, a comedian and skit creator, had recently been utilizing his comedic skits to criticize things like insecurity, bad leadership, and corrupt politicians.
The DSS allegedly detained Chukwu because of a video he posted, according to the mother of Chukwu, Mrs. Magaret Chukwu.
