The Congress of University Academics, CONUA, the breakaway faction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has come out to deny claims of its receiving their eight months salary backlog from the Federal government.

The National Coordinator of CONUA, Niyi Sunmonu, had told news reporters on Monday, November 7 that the viral claim making rounds that the government had paid them their withheld salaries and allowances, after proof that the CONUA members did not join the eight-month strike called by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, was completely false.

Meanwhile, the government has been urged by the union to pay their members’ their withheld salaries through a circular it released on Sunday, November 5, explaining that the payment of half-salary for October was unfair.

Meanwhile, there are reports of another strike looming on the horizon, as a consequence of the half-payment of the October salary saga. At the time of this report, ASUU members are currently in a meeting at the ASUU headquarters in Abuja, to decide on their way forward.
